I am trying to fix a D17 for my son, but I can't locate the ID plate to determine what parts to buy. Where in the world did they place it? HA!

The serial number is on the left side on the torque tube just behind where the engine bolts in. If the tractor has been painted, you will likely have to scrape the paint off. There is no id plate. The numbers are stamped into the casting.

Also, once you find the serial number you can check the date with the listing on another page of this site so you will know the year of the unit.
There are some features of every tractor that can help identify the year but the serial number is best.
Parts supply is available through sponsor's of this site.

Ok, I found the ID Number exactly where you said it would be. The numbers stamped into the casting is" D17 32212

I looked in the Serial Number reference list but can't find this number. I was told that this tractor was made in the 60's.

Built in 1960, almost 1961.

Terry Deans data book indicates your tractor is from 1960.

Thanks guys. Also, I see items on ebay for this tractor listed as being for series I or II all the way up to a series 5. How can I determine if this applys to this tractor?

There wasn't a series 5, just up to Series 4.

Not hardly any difference between 1 & 2. 3 & 4 had an oval muffler and a few other goodies.

Hi Bill, ok---this one has the Oval Muffler on it---they actually cut the hood to fit that muffler in there---HA!

The serial number reference page gives the range of numbers for a given year. Your's fell toward the end of 1960 as the 1961 numbers started shortly right after your number.

You probably have a Series 1, but I don't know where the break is where Series 2 started.

Series II tractors began with #32001, so you have a Series II.
