My Dad just bought a B model Allis Chamler tractor. The only number that we can find on it is on the engine --- 1 22 48. Does anyone know if this is the year of manufacture or anything about it. If this is not the VIN then can anyone tell me where it should be. We don't know anything about it other than it is a B model tractor.

Also if there is anyone who can tell me where i can get parts information I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much.

The tractor number is stamped next to the shifter where it says Tractor Number or Tractor No. The engine will have a different serial number and will most likely be stamped on the left rear engine flange where the block meets the torque tube. Probably starts with CE. 1-22-48 may be the date that an individual casting was made and the tractor may could be a 48 or later model.

Lane, don;t waste money on the Jensales manuals. They are very poor quality and you can't tell what the pictures represent. JMO If you want a manual, go to the top of this page and click on Allis Store. You can buy manuals here from Darin and help support this site. Charle

I use a JENSALES parts manual covering the B,IB & C Tractors plus power units and it is a quality copy of the AC original. I find it most usefull. I believe it was purchased from a forum vendor.

The Serial Numbers are stamped into the castings. The Casting Numbers and the casting dates are raised numbers and are part of the casting.

All the numbers you find are useful in dating the tractor or major components of a tractor. Most major components are interchangeable and it is not unusual to find Bs made up from different vintage B parts or even with engines from Cs or CAs or power units

If you can find the actual casting date on the head ( under the valve cover), or on the left side of the block or transmission case it helps determine if they were once replaced with newer or older components.

Look for small rectangular bumps on the casting with dates like 6-15-47 with the impression of 2 slotted screwheads before and after the numbers. They are not always located in the exact same place.
