We are trying to remove the engine from a wd 45 we have everything ready to come out but it will not come out fully. We think that there is something holding the clutch plate on the shaft but we cannot visibly see anything holding it. Any info would be appreciated and I checked another thread but no help on our problem.

Have you removed the front angle motor mount and the steering shaft from the u joint?
If you think the clutch disc is what's holding it up, you can remove the pressure plate bolts from the bottom hole in the clutch housing.

yes we have the motor suspended and we have also taken the pressure plate out it is moving back and forth on this shaft but it is hitting something like a pin or key. Does the shaft come out with the engine or does it stay in the transmission?

pretty sure the shaft stays

we can rock the motor back and forth pretty far but just won't go the rest of the way. The heads and the oil pan are off so we have a pretty good view of everything.

What about the hand crank shaft that goes thru the front end?

It shouldn't have a pilot bearing. Was the tractor running before you tore the engine down. Not likely but maybe the clutch disk pressure plate flywheel and imput shaft all rusted together.

Yes WD45's have a pilot bearing, The input shaft can hang up in the pilot bearing and some of them have a bushing on the end of shaft too and they are bad about rusting to the shaft and bearing too.

you cant have the motor raised much at all in the front or you will hang on the transmission input shaft .

Do you have the dust cover off of the bottom of the bellhousing?   I'm sure you probably do but I know from reading on here it has been missed a time or two.   And yes, you can't put alot of up pressure on the engine, just enough to take the weight off and to move it forward.

Did you unhook the throttle linkage and choke linkage? What about the bolt behind the air cleaner? How far will it move back and forth?  MACK

So how are you supposed to remove the pilot bearing or are we just gonna have to force it off. And yes we have the throttle and choke linkage off and the dust cover so it has to be something inside the clutch plate area. We can push the motor far enough to one side you can almost see the other side of the clutch plate but it is not coming any further.

oh yeah the tractor was not running my dad bought it locked up hoping to get it freed up. That didn't work so he found a trike that ran for a good price so that's what's going on with the whole situation. He did successfully free a d-15 so  that was why he invested in it to try.

502 you didn't say how far the engine moves forward, the trans input shaft stays with the trans and as said with all the trouble you are having take all the preasure plate bolts out from underneeth . If you are sure there is no interferance with any hardware it must be pilot bearing. Also as said engine must come sraight forward about 4 or 6 in. before tilting upward.  HTH

one more thing that could cause a fubar is the starter if it was left in the bell housing before attempting engine removal

I think the flywheel was froze to the pilot bearing on the end of the shaft. The more we moved the whole engine around the looser it got. I took someone's advise and started taking the screws out of the clutch plate, then the very last one was all the way on top and did not allow room for anything we had. Out of frustration we started prying the engine outward and wiggling it some more the whole engine came all the way out. So we are gonna start taking out the good motor hopefully this week.
