Thats a common issue for these collar shift trans. There are some"fixes" you can try like making sure fork isn't bent or maybe moving detent grove on shift rail . Likely a real fix will involve replacement of worn parts (complete disassembly) and a thick checkbook !!

This only works for a short time. Uncle did this on his series I D15 and it worked for a year.....Now 2 guys can stand on the gear shift and the minute you let the foot clutch out it pops out of 3rd.
We can blow smoke up each others skirt all day about shift forks and detents and shaft end play and all the other fixes. Only way to fix a D series jumping out of gear is to rip the trans apart and replace worn out expensive parts. Not hard to do, just time consuming and pricey

Every time that pops out of gear, it does more damage to the splines. It is possible the gear splines are OK if the collar was replaced now. Proper engagement is also helpful in saving the splines.
