Well, with the sun shining nice I figured I'd spend the afternoon getting this G engine removed. Thing is, it has other ideas ! Barely broke the paint around bell housing and engine and that's as much as it will move. If the crank was worked on before, it's been a while and the little girl just don't want to come apart again.

Here's a couple shots of what I rigged up to lift it with.

Been trying to post these for hours, maybe only a couple at a time.

It finally gave up.

Ok, that worked
Never mounted an engine to a stand before, glad no one was here to video it !
Clutch doesn't look to bad but I may replace it since it's out.

Well guys, there is no lady of the house so I don't have to worry about that ! Parts washing will have to be taken outside but the air compressor is in the garage, plenty of hose to reach. Doubt if I need it now, had to use the air impact to get the flywheel off. The B&D 18volt impact brought the pressure plate bolts off easy enough. It'll likely do most anything else needed. Still got to pull the carb off, it still has gas in it and needs cleaned anyway, then I can turn the whole thing over and get start.

Sorry it gave you so much grief.  When I had to take mine out I just looped a chain between 2 head studs and strong armed it off the back!

The guide pin, or whatever you call it, on the starter side was the culprit for all the trouble. It was seriously stuck ! Took a good bit of wiggling and penetrating oil to get it to come loose. Yeah, I'm sore but I was nearly lifting the back tires off the porch !

I'd have thought it might have been a bit easier if you'ld taken the rear implement bars off to get a straighter pull..but your living room 'shop' reminds me of my old 3 bedroom apartment where one room was my 'shop'(motorcycle WAS in the living room though).I rebuilt my 58 willys 4wd pickup in there(trannies, electrical) any parts that fit a shopping cart came up and were made new.Ah..memories..only thing left of the Willys...sigh...

I helped my friend rebuild a VW motor in his kitchen yrs ago ,it was kind of nice the tv was on and the fridge had plenty of beer but the table was never the same after and his landlord was not a happy camper .But I did put that as one thing not to do in my leases for my rentals lol

I rebuilt my old 1967 shovel head Harley in my college dorm room. The RA was pissed when I dumped some used oil into the toilet. He really blew a gasket when I finished butchering a deer in the showers later that semester. But doing that in the house? You are my hero!!

Warren:  Since you don't have a wife to complain the dishwasher on "pots and pans" does a great job of cleaning parts!!

Don't have a fire anywhere in the house anytime in the near future. The residue of oil and gasoline vapors will trigger the arson investigation charging you with arson. Even if the fire is a far part of the house, they will detect the petroleum in a place its not normally.

As long as that engine doesn't end up in the bed with you, you have my vote as one dedicated AC follower, great post, hope all goes well.

In bed with me, Chris ?!?! NO WORRY !
That would be bad, Gerald, so no fires ! I've got two more to do ! Hope they don't require much internal work.
Don, I've been waiting for,"You might be a redneck if you rebuild engines in your livingroom!"...
Rawleigh, my dishwashers are fastened to the end of my arms, so, yeah, they do a good job !
As for me being a hero, you guys may need to set your standards a bit higher ! haha
