Looking to get a new carburetor for a 1957 D17, S/N 10336.
Can anyone tell me the model # of the Zenith carburetor I would put on this tractor? The number I can see on the brass stamp on top of the Carb is 12217.
Does it take the same carb as a WD45?

I've never seen a Zenith carb on a D-17, although I understand some came equipped with the Zenith Model 267 JB carburetor. Some WD-45s used a Zenith 267-8.
In any event, it appears that that number on the brass tag can be useful in obtaining the correct carb.
In my experience most WD-45s and D-17s appear to have been equipped with the Marvel-Schebler carburetors.
According to my A-C manual, some D-17s used the common Marvel-Schebler TSX-464 carb that was used on so many WD-45s, although they usually came with Marvel-Schebler TSX-561, TSX-773 or (after Ser. #42001) TSX-871 carburetors. All of these carbs are listed in my parts manual as having also been used on the WD-45s.
You may have better luck finding one of the Marvel-Schebler carbs than a Zenith.

Are D17 has a Zenith on it since we had it but I can,t tell you which one because there is no tag. It is also a 1957 serial no. 2829.

i also have a zenith on my 57 d-17 s/n 3594. i too cant make out number on the brass tag.

AND...my 1957 D17,serial #4128 also has the Zenith carb. on it and it came from the factory that way. I've also seen the Zeniths on a lot of D17's...not uncommon at all. Rick

Well Rick, Maybe we should take a survey as to who's D17s have Zenith's vs Marvel-Scheblers? Uncommon, maybe not, common, maybe not either!
I didn't interpret the parts book as Orange Blood did; that ALL D-17s prior to Ser. #24001 were equipped with Zenith carbs. He may be correct!

Brian...I don't care if they are common or uncommon really,I was just pointing out that I have a D17 with a Zenith carb. on it and that I've seen many of them like that and I have. I'm also sure that all of them didn't come here to central Mo. either! I think Clay pretty well cleared that up anyway with the info he supplied to the forum. Wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers and I hope you didn't take it that way. Rick

Guys I am not trying to ruffle feathers either. I simply posted information that comes right from Allis Chalmers documentation. I do realize now, that I posted in an arogant fashion, posting answers without discussion or acknowleging others points. I can't stand it when others do this, and I apologize, I am not a know it all, nor do I want to apear as such.

I did not see anything that should ruffle anyone's feathers.
(Perhaps the red print is a bit difficult to view compared to the black print.)
