I just changed the transmission oil this weeked in the semi-new to us 8030 and when I pulled the cover off to service the pump suction screen I found some metal shavings on top of the plate. It does grind some when shifting the range lever, could these be related to that? According to records the previous owner who put on about 1,000 hours did decent oil and filter changes but who knows how often they pulled the suctions screen out of the bottom. The tractor has a total of 5,000 hours. How concerned should I be?
 Also, when I refilled the system I put in the 8 gallons (plus or minus 1/2 gallon) the manual called for but when I checked the dipstick after running full throttle for 15 minutes per the manual it was reading about a 1/2" high on the dipstick for a fwa machine. Is the harmful so that I need to drain some out, which should be a messy job with a side mounted drain plug, or is the extra oil ok?

| Looks better than the brg cage metal I found in mine.LOL! If that's just teeth grindings you'll probably be fine.Range change will most always grind if not COMPLETELY stopped.Clutch pedal/brake needs to be adjusted to book specs to work right and then it takes some getting used to. |

The fill capacity is for a dry housing. Cannot get it dry without dismantling (i.e., when built or repaired) as there is an upper compartment that does not drain. My mechanic thought it was a poor design as it also holds contaminates. Usually 6.5 gallons is about right. Only damage is increased power consumption. Drain a little back out and you'll be fine. ------------- The innovators offer what others will imitate. |
