I was chiseling with my 8070 yesterday and the first 15 acres went great, then I turned for the next pass and set the chisel back down and the 8070 started slowing down(rpm's).
I lifted the chisel then pushed in the clutch and the engine went from 1500 to 27-2800 3 or 4 times then died. Cranked but didn't start. Checked fuel, over 3/4. Checked fuel flow from lift pump, had fuel. Checked fuel flow to inj. pump, had flow. I disconnected 2 inj. lines and cranked, started and raced to 3000 then died. Put both lines back on and tried to start again wouldn't start. Used either and wd40 and started but wouldn't stay running below 1500 rpm and would not lug. Very slow throttle response(rpm rise and drop), would run fine at 2500 rpm but when pulled down(going up a hill) it would fall on its face. I went up a couple hills in the low side, 3rd gear. On the drive home, power came back when at 2500 rpm but still had slow throttle response and erratic idle (1000-1500rpm).
Long story short, what's wrong?

You've checked your fuel filters? Any water in the system?

Fuel filters are good. I drained about 1 teaspoon of water from the fuel/water seperator.

The M100 pump was called a 2500hr pump.Many ran twice that but sounds like time for a rebuild.Mine wouldn't stay running below 1500 hot @4900hrs.

I wouldn't think a pump would wear out so suddenly. Something may have broken inside, though.

I'm the 2nd owner, tractor has 5200 hrs on it. It has a shop sticker on it so i assume its been overhauled.

something definitely broken or stuck in the governor. Hard for me to pinpoint exactly what problem is, but would probably be obvious once torn down. Take off the rectangular cover over the governor(4 - 1/4" bolts 7/16 socket) and watch/control the governor arm manually. Friction clutch may have failed suddenly. A flyweight may have came out of position as well, or pin fell out. Have someone else there with you to be in cab. move gov lever back for less fuel/rpm, forward for more. sounds like a pump rebuild is in order anyhow. good luck! Ed.

I would rebuild pump for you, there are lots of shady Model 100 remans out there. you can ups it to our shop in E. Peoria. pm for more details.
