I am trying to get a wd started, When cranking I have white smoke coming out the exust so i am thinking it is a timeing issue. It has a mag on it and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Both with the internal timeing of the mag and timeing the mag to the engine. Thanks Steve

Does the impulse coupler work? Disable the mag and hand crank the engine very slowly. You should hear a "snap" in the mag every half turn of the crank. Otherwise see if it will pull-start. If you can start it, check the timing with a timing light.

White smoke can be water. I have also seen a flooded tractor puff out what could be considered white smoke. Do you have clean dry plugs to start with? If there is an R in the plug number throw it out and get the right plugs. The wires should not be resistor type either. Fresh clean fuel is a must also. Too many variables to guess what might be wrong with little information. Good luck and keep posting what you find.

white smoke is a sign that you are getting fuel in the cylinders. Check for spark at plug #1. closest to the radiator, If no spark remove the cap and clean the points. rub a paper match book cover through the points a couple of times. With the plug still out, place your thumb in the hole and hand crank the engine until air is forced out of the hole. stick a long piece of wire in the hole and turn the crank until the wire stops coming out of the hole. replace the cap and install the rotor, it should be pointed at #1 lug/wire position.
