When did allis change the head bolts from 12 to 15 bolts? And where where the 3 extra bolts placed?

My parts book shows a change at engine # 289000 which is after the WC's were done. The newer head is listed for the WF & W201 PU but they both use 15 bolts/nuts it looks like.

Well it is a short 3" head on the tractor.

I'm curious about this as well.
I know there are a lot of the guys here who know the answer.
Somewhere back with the unstyled WCs?

I'm not sure of the head bolts but from my observations, the WD went from the short head to the tall head sometime in 1951 around serial number 83,000.

That would match up with engine # 289000.

I did a little math and parts book surfing today. If Allis used the 201 engine for other uses than for tractors on a regular basis, the switch to the tall head on the WD occured at serial 82,008. For 1951 there were 2493 more 201 engines produced than WD tractors.

The 3 extra head bolts are the 3 - 3/8 bolts along the side. They were put in some where after 1934.  MACK

Our 37, 38, 39, & 41 WCs all had 12 bolt heads. The 41 had a dealer replacement block that was installed in the late 50s. The replacement is the WD45 type block but had all WC 201 internals and the original  12 bolt WC head. It now has all WD 45 internal parts and a 4" 45 head with the proper 15 head bolts for this engine. Kip
