OK, I've spent some time trying to search for a past topic about 'G high oil pressure'. I KNOW there was a reply with a picture of some 'plug' to unscrew to see if 'crud' is in there.
I get the dreaded red screen of death when 'G' is in the search, 'oil pressure' gives a zillion messages.
Does anyone know how I can find the messages. I've gotta start saving these 'gems', somehow , for future reference...
Yes, my G pegs the gauge to max,tried two gauges....fraid to run for too long...

With the spring and poppet out you should have zero oil pressure. If not you will most likely need to remove the engine and oil pump to check the passages so you can find what is plugging the system. Oil Pump Location  |

OK..just an update, made a WIDE flat screwdriver and got #16 'screw' out. Pulled out the spring and then...
a 1/4-20 NUT !!!!!
Jeff's picture tells me that ain't right..so I'm thinking someone stuck it in to increase oil pressure(soft spring ?) ??
I'm going to return things 'back to normal' tomorrow and see what happens.
I have a spare block and may borrow parts from it if needed.

| I posted about the same problem. A brand-new gauge reads the maximum 30 pounds at startup. After a good warm-up it dropped to 28 pounds of pressure. I am going to stop and fix my air compressor so I can blow a little compressed air through passageways. |

Update..with spring and plunger(?) #19 out, zero oil pressure.Replaced both with 'spare' ones from donor engine, same high oil pressure.
So...what do I do now ??

Try using a lower viscosity (thinner) oil!!

My G runs pretty high too. I never considered it a problem. I would be more concerned if it was low.

| I don't think 30 pounds on that engine is high. Sounds about correct for a gear oil pump. It sure will not ever be a problem. This is not the Allis Chalmers engine design, it is a Continental. If I see one of my Oilver tractors running below 30 pounds I start feeling uneasy. I didn't find a normal pressure in my manuals but I am sure my G runs around the 30 pound mark. However you have proved that the spring controls the pressure when you removed it a had zero oil pressure. You can then set this pressure to where ever you want by changing the spring tension. |

Good news...Finally got a 100# gage installed and ran the G. Have 35-40# pressure! which explains why both original gages 'pegged' the needle.I'll assume they are 30# gages.
