I have a D14 with a trip bucket loader. I was thinking of converting the loader to fully hydraulic (up down and bucket). I would also like to mount a front pump so the hydraulics work with the clutch pushed in. Could this be done so all I am doing is omitting the factory pump so every thing works ( rear lift and traction booster).

David Kamp did a very detailed post of his install of a front pump on a D series tractor, but I can not find the post.

So to answer your question.... YES

You need a front mounted pump, resevoir, control valve and all the req'd hoses. If I was gonna add hydraulics I'd end up with at least two circuits, up/down and bucket dump. Make the connections at the control valve with quick couplers so you can remove the loader, then use the quick connectors to hook to your round baler to save the day! (sounds like MY story, lol) The original hydraulics should be left alone to function as intended.

Does anybody know what size pump I would need. The control valve I was thinking of using would be a two spools one two position for the bucket and the other three position up down and float. Just not sure what size.

Size of pump you need depends on the diameters of the loader cylinders and how fast you want it to move. And also on the loader geometry, how far the loader cylinders are from the pivots.

I have MF-236 loader, and when I went to the front mounted pump, after having it on an oversized PTO pump for years, I went to a pump rated at 5 gpm at 1800 rpm and it was nice. A higher volume pump makes you have sandpapered finger tips to run the valves gently enough for delicate work or else you try to rip the loader off its mounts, you tip the tractor up on the front wheels lifting even a light load, and you bang into stuff. I have that loader on my JD 4020 now with about a 20 gpm main pump and I have a needle flow restrictor valve on the feed to the loader valve supply. So I don't know what flow its really set for but I can run it with gloved hands without ripping the loader mounts apart.

One other measure is you can find the rated flow for the tractor that you have used it on and pick your pump for that modified by your wishes on loader motion speed.

Yes Gerald I guess I should have phrased the question better. I would like it to operate the same as with the stock pump but also when the clutch is pushed in. So I need to know the specs of the existing pump.

Any body? I checked tractor data.com They show the specs of some tractors but not the D14s hydraulics.

John; I have 2 D17s with front mount pumps, I will check the GPM on them. Where in Ont do you live.

If you can spare a couple of coins, go for a 3 spool valve setup.#3 is for 'future' use.Whole lot easier NOW than later.

My A-C forklift has a factory installed 3 spool valve block( I'm thinking sideshift was an option ?)
