Hello, I got this AC 914 garden tractor with a kohler 14 HP engine. The points on this machine are not opening and closing. The small rod that opens them is not moving. I took it out and its not binding up it just won't move. Does anyone have a clue what can cause this. I'm stumped. What does the rod work off of?   Thanks for any help.

lobe on cam ,
Not sure if this would cause it or not but what material is the pushrod for the points made out of? All the new points require a steel pushrod. If the engine is older it may have had an original aluminum pushrod. The newer points have a stronger spring.

Like I said, not sure this could cause it while just cranking by hand but who knows. When you get her running, dont forget to break out a timing light and set the timing.

Well, the cam was what I thought but even if the cam is worn there would be some movement of the rod. The rod is completely not moving. Do you know what turns that cam. I'm thinking something inside broke. Is it a gear driven cam?
