I just bought a wd45 with a 2 bottom plow and now am thinking I want a small disc for my garden. I will be using the tractor mostly for cutting/raking/baling (small squares) hay on my 5.5 acres of hay ground, but since I have the plow I figured it would be easier plowing/discing the garden than tilling every fall and spring. And it gets me on the tractor right? I was thinking has anybody ever converted a smaller (6-8') single gang disc to snap coupler? I know it would take some welding and steel but in my head it seems possible. So what do you think can it be done or am I better off just looking for a snap coupler disc and waiting it out? Thanks for any info. |

Find an inexpensive 3 pt adaptor for the tractor.One that can be taken on and off easily.That way you can use 3pt and snap coupler equiptment.Just my 2 cents ------------- You only need to know 3 things to be a plumber;Crap rolls down hill,Hot is on the left and Don't bite your fingernails 1964 D-17 SIV 3 Pt.WF,1964 D-15 Ser II 3pt.WF ,1960 D-17 SI NF,1956 WD 45 WF. |

Back 'in the day', AC made an implement adapter to do just that, convert common 3-point implements to snap coupler. Cross still makes a very similar adapter that could be modified to do the same thing.
This is from an old AC manual and shows the adapter mounted on a 3-pt. plow:

| I know that the 3 point adapter would be an "easy" way to go but they are anywhere from $300 to $900 and then a 3 point disc would be another $500-$600 so I'm over half what I paid for the tractor. I don't need lots of 3 point implements I was just thinking I have seen quite a few single gang discs for $50-$100 and if a guy sticks another hundred into them I'm out $200 intead of over a grand. Even finding a snap-coupler disc for $5-$600 would be more cost effective than going with the adapter for me right now. I totally understand that a 3 point is way more versatile than snap coupler due to the #'s of implements but I guess I'm being a titewad lol. Thanks for the advice fellas. |

It would be easy enough to fab up a snap coupler hitch to an old 3-point disc. Personally I'd just buy a drag or wheel disc. Then all you'd need is a drawbar. I pull a 8' wheel disc with my 45 from time to time. |

I use 3 point implements and Snap Coupler implements all the time on my WD45 and I don't have one of those bulky expensive 3pt conversions. When I want to use the Snap Coupler I simply drop the drawbar like normal. l'll try to get a better pic tomorrow, in this one I have the lift arms off(with a flip of the safety latches and the lower pins, lift arms come right off. They are off in under 2 minutes....they can be left on but it makes the drawbar easier to get back on b/c its lighter without them. Heavy duty bracket is welded on to the lift shaft for the center link. With the boom pole on I have lifted the rear end of another WD45 with no problem. Those aftermarket hitches are so freaking big and not easy to remove.....the set up I have is sturdy and simple......works great.....Grandpa made a living with this tractor setup this way.  |

I have one that is very similar to 79fordblake's.
I didn't like the way the 3PT adapter that came on my parts tractor bolted to the rearend casting, so I welded a cross shaped support bracket out of channel iron that bolts to the drawbar to hold a standard 3PT drawbar. My lower arms are from the conversion with cat II ends, but a set of lower arms from the local farm store would work as well. The top link bracket is a u-shaped piece that goes around the rockshaft with the pin verticle.
Add a couple of turnbuckles for connnecting to the lift arms and adjustment and you are pretty much set. If you know any dirttrack racers, they propbably have some heim joints they used for tie rods that would work.
While I would not want to use a 3PT plow, it works okay for disking and moving things with a carrier.

Sorry guys I forgot to take a pic of the setup while I had the tractor out today.....I have no problem doing anything heavy duty with this setup.....I used the boom pole today and picked up the whole back half of a 1975 F100 truck so I could get the rear end out from under it. I'll try to get a pic of it tomorrow. I need to straighten one of my lower arms....I bent one backing the pond scoop into hard ground a few years back. |

79Fordblake, I would like to see some photos of your setup! I am kind of dumb so put up lots of them from different angles.
I have a 1950 Wd with a 3 pt adapter on it. I have a old style snap coupler plow and a 3 point 8 foot fergeson or ford disk. It is a kind of a pain to take off the 3 pt adapter to use my snap coupler plow. I also have a 3 point 5 ft bush hog rotary mower I use with the 3 pt adapter. It is about impossible to find a snap coupler disk around here and I have never seen one on a local craigslist. Maybe I should get rid of the snap coupler plow and get a fergeson plow that is 3 point? But would my WD hydraulics work the plow as good? This setup has been on the tractor since way before I was born and I am 21. I use it constantly lifting very heavy things with the 3pt boom pole....use a bushhog, regular blade, box blade, cultivaters, pond scoop, and disk also with no problems. I have good lock washers on all the bolts...this thing is rigid with no movement. It makes it so easy to drop the drawbar like normal and hook up snap coupler implements. |
