this block came from a pile of parts from a 39 b. notice some things are a bit different from most other old b blocks. notice that there is no flat area at the middle of the back where some engine serial numbers were located. there is also no serial number in the other side location. also, the casting numbers on the side of the block begin with a 40, not the usual 29. there is also a 2nd set of numbers/letters embossed on the side; they read G 15 H. Could this be a power unit block? or possibly a replacement block sold by the dealer??

I'd have to agree, that's a CE Engine block. On the flange that mounts to the torque tube, look for a serial number that starts with CE. The area is shown in the first picture but is too bright and shiney to read. Cant say I've seen that casting that sits behind where the magneto goes though...

That has the same casting numbers as my 1958 IB, even the big 2. Since there is no serial number maybe it is a replacement. Mine has serial number CE 203474 PA putting it well into 1958. |
