I have a 1955 WD 45 Diesel that has had the original bd-230 replaced with a BD-273.  What do you think that would do to the value of the tractor?  It needs paint but the tires and sheet metal are good.

Thanks

I would think as a work tractor it would increase the value. But some collector type people would be turned off on the deal. Did you get that engine out of a cock-shutt?

Yah but a buda 273 block and a buda 262 block add up to sometning like 292. and no wet sleaves to deal with.

I am not sure if it came from a Cockshutt it was that way when I got it.  From the information I have found the Cockshutt motor was a BA-273 and this is a BD-273.  Maybe the A & D designation does not change the engine much though, I am not sure.  If someone does know I would appreciate the information.

Thanks again

I won't speak for everyone else, but a tractor that was once a WD45D is not a WD45D anymore without the correct motor and injection pump and would have no collectible value at all and would only be worth parts to me.
Its value for field work, would depend on the condition of the rear end being I suspect overworked by the higher horsepower motor.

Some people , I have had a few 45 diesels and I have had some that are correct from front to back and some that have been cross breed to Buda gas blocks converted back to diesel and some with 17 motors I think there all collectiable as long as it has a D at the end of the serial no.   The 45"s that are diesels with correct engine are worth more but the others are valuable as well , there all worth what somebody is willing to pay...

Allis used the BD-273 engine in gen sets and as a marine engine. I saw a BD-273 genst for sale at the Hastings GOTO with an inline pump. I like originial tractors but being at hot rodder at heart, I also like like the one of nones built with a walk through the parts department.

Fields,I believe you put the crank out of a 262 into the 273 to get that cube. I always wanted to try it.
