What is the cheapest way to ship a used pair of 47# 11x24 rims about 800 miles? Do they have to be boxed if they go UPS?

UPS has a width + height + lenghth maximum of 165 inches. anything over 130 gets smacked extra $50. No box, probably another $50. Seing is how it is 800 miles UPS still might be your best bet if the rims are under the 165 inches.

I just had rims and tires shipped about that far and I had them banded on a pallet and shipped common carrier.

I have shipped some larger items through Greyhound. A few years ago, I shipped a Model A cowl section through them and cost 75.00. Cost has went up, but they were cheaper than anyone else on the larger items.

UPS is cheapest way , don`t use ups store they will rip you a new one, Find a friend with a business that has dayley ups service. usps will take up to 70# .

If you use truck frt use terminal drop ship. Tony

I had a full set of steel wheels shipped from South Carolina to MN for $230 on a pallet from terminal to terminal. I think that would probably be as cheap as truck freight would get. They said as long as it fit on a standard pallet and weighed less than 500 pounds the rate was the same. UPS would probably be the answer.

I just shipped a 80# box thru UPS, exceded the box size alittle, billable weight was 105#'s. Was only going to 1 zone over, was $60, I thought that was a bargain for the buyer.

I looked up 2 separate UPS Quotes online.

First one was for both rims in one big box. Box size was estimated to be 25x25x25 = 75. Estimated weight, about 100 lbs. Cost to Zone 5 was $84.38

Second one was 2 boxes estimated to be 25x25x13 in size and weighing 50 pounds each. Cost per box was $39.68 or $79.36 total.

Less expensive to go with the 2 smaller boxes.

Is there any savings if I pickup at UPS terminal instead of delivered to to the farm?

The Quotes were from zip 61108 to 75652

use Fed EX wont have to box em at all. you would be surprised. just had a 12 x 28 rim shipped half way cross the country Cheap.

Not really JW. These rims and the tires you saw are for CA puller #2 still under construction. I'm all hooked up with CA#1 and ready for Shreveport. See you there.

I got a reasonable shipping quote from FEDEX today. Ship 2 rims w/o wraping or boxing as 2 identical items/one shipment for $68.80 a pair. Rockford IL to Longview TX. I can live with that

Did you check with UPS or FedX freight (Semi truck and trailer) rather than the regular route truck?

Shipping to a residence or to a business address makes a cost difference. I asked at FEDEX if I could save cost by picking up at their dock. They said there was no difference or savings over home or business delivery. Beside that, the Longview Tx Office had no "Holding Facility" If I wanted to pickup I would have to drive 72 miles round trip to Tyler where they have a "Holding Facility" BTW I sent the seller a check for the rims plus the FEDEX shipping. I should have the rims next week. Thanks everyone for your input.
