I have a couple of old 45's that have the original paint, and I don't intend to repaint it, but should a guy give it a good washing and then put a wax or rubbing compound to try to give it a little protection from further fading. It is pretty well faded as is, but I was thinking if I cleaned and waxed it, it would bring back some of the color/shine. What do you guys do to tractors in that condition. It always sits inside. Thanks.

Yes a lite coat of wax will help them out; rubbing compound might be to much for the old paint.
If I have a plow day first weekend of Nov. do you think your wd45 and plow come play?

Wax for sure, and if you don't like the wax that ends up in the pits and cracks try one of the liquid detailers waxes and buff it out briskly with a clean cloth.

I have used a 'cleaner wax' from meguiars in the past with good results.

Our 50 WF retains pretty decent original paint. We have owned it for about 10 years now and all we do is wipe it down with WD-40 a couple times a year. Seems to be staying static as far as appearance. I think that old paint looks chinsy with wax applied over it but that is personal prefferance/

I have seen guys clear coat over original paint which looks nice. I am not a fan of clear coat on new paint jobs, but I think it is a good way to preserve old paint. You would have to get it shiny first though I would think.

Clean it.
Wax it.
Keep it out of sun when parked.

Well Ive tried that many different things over the years, and wax is hard work and dont last long,so I rate it pretty low on old paint, sure its great on new or good paint, but old tractors with paint missing and rust spots come up best with penetrol I think, either rub it like an oil if the paints not good(faded) it brings the color back, or just give it a coat with a brush. They look good for ages and it stops the rust.I learnt about Penetrol on this forum!

The wax is not always to make the old paint shine but to protect the paint from pollutants in the air that raise heck with paint.
A good wax over bare metal will slow down rust.
The best protection for any paint is to keep it out of the sun when parked.

I have this checmical we use here for degreasing , or cleaning hard to clean items with our powerwasher, it called buckshot, and the funny thing about it is when you use it on Allis Chlamers orange it cleans it up unbeilevably, where you dont think there is even any paint will come out a nice bright clean orange, it even takes out that purple hugh on the Per 2 color back to a nice orange, ITs pretty easy to use just spray it on the tractor with a hand sprayer and than wash it off with the powerwasher, the bad thing about it is if someone repainted the tractor and didnt prep properly the new paint starts to seperate from the old.
