| I just picked up an 8 foot disc for the WD, I know the cylinders back then were single acting, is there any such thing anymore? How would I hook up a double acting cylinder to lift the disc, or anything else? Would a 3,000psi cylinder and hose be ok, and what size cylinder would I need? TIA, Tim |

| Put the hose on the push side of the cylinder and vent the opposite side. 3000# should be fine for that. I would imagine 3" cylinder would be tons. If its too big the ol' WD will take forever to lift it. |

If you are using the WD hyd system, that is high pressure and low pressure two way
cylinders were not designed for that. Damage/explosion may happen. You could modify the tractor to get low pressure and use low pressure cylinders but the lift speed is reduced as mentioned above....Dale

DON'T use low pressure cyl.on hi pressure tractor,I blew the ends off 2 7/16 cyl.bolts,DON'T DO IT!!!

| Hey, if the cylinder will take 3,000 psi it'll take 3,000 psi. I don't recall the WD developing more than that. I don't think you'll need a 3" one though. that's over 10 tons push at 3000 psi and would be fairly slow. |

| Whoa! 4700 psi you say? Well hush my mouth. That's a lot of pressure to be trusting to a relief valve even if you could put one on. Maybe best to go with an original high pressure ram. |

My 45 after, the pump was rebuilt wouldn't unload for me, killed the engine at an idle. I put a 5k pressure gauge on it and blew it out. With a 10K gauge it show over 9400 psi and finally unloded. I took it back apart and found a 1/4 inch deep counter bore missing in the new AGCO sold relief spool. I put it in the lathe and drilled the c'bore and ended up with 2800 psi. I thought at the time it was too much work to take it back apart to shim it .005-.007 of an inch so it has stayed that way. I don't bend my loader frame like I could before, but it hasn't bothered with lifting the plow or the wheel disc. Any well made cylinder will have a rating on it. Those ratings are considerably under the maximum pressure the cylinder will take before coming apart. I have an old Oliver cylinder here I used on the planter for a couple years. It's a 2 way and I vented the front side of the piston. The only problem I had was I had to stop at the end rows to wait for the planter to come up. If you use a lower rated cylinder, don't let the pump hammer at the end of the stroke.
