Model C converted to 12v with alternator in the '80's.
I have the alternator's regulator in the toolbox.
The alternator bearings fell apart. I can replace it for
cheap. However, I always felt it didn't look right, sort
of had remorse about doing it.  I have advice from friend
to get replacement alternator for $50 and this time paint
it orange, then it would look right. He also said what's
next, a quest to find stinky leaded gas?  Some people
just don't understand.

Can anyone suggest a 12v generator and alternator
combination?

You should be able to find a 10SI Delco alternator for around $10 now or go to the later style which are smaller and higher output. Or look for a generator off 1955 to 1964 GM car or pick-up to find a 12V generator.
the 10SI is internally reguated so easy to wire with just one wire and sensing wire from hot lead to one spade on alt. regulator terminals

Using an alternator from a junk auto would probably be the cheapest repair (the 10SI is a good one). These old Allis's don't use much electricity in most cases (most are rarely used at nite, don't have big radios/amps, don't have A/C/heaters/electric cooling fans, etc...and start rather quickly) and a hi ouput alternator is overkill.
I like using the generators from the old Chevys (the short style) when upgrading to 12V; looks original (and installs using the 6V gennie bracket and belt) and it will supply enough power to keep the battery fully charged. I also have the electrical shop run the gennie and balance the regulator to it. To retain the original look and to isolate from the weather, I mount the regulator inside the tool box.

How about a D-17 Generator? I have no idea how much they get for them at the scrap yards but it should look pretty original?

Late D-14's & D-15's were 12v positive ground and had the same engine family.

D-17 genny is too long. I bought one for my D15, but it wouldn't fit in front of the carb.
