It seems like the heavy centers for the C's are pretty common, but B's are pretty scarce. We have a tractor bone yard near here that has 4 or 5 C's with the 4 notch heavy centers.

Question for you Bill, since a starter was standard on the C's how did you get one without a battery box or generator? What's the serial of the tractor and motor?

A steel wheeled C would be a war tractor. Some war" tractors had a delete plate in place of the starter. I would guess if it was sold without a starter it wouldn't need a genny or battery.

From this angle it looked like a non electric tool box from a B but maybe it does have a delete plate.

MNLonnie., My C was built early in 1944 during WWII. Alot of ractioning went on for the war effort, rubber, steel, copper, lead, and other things. These items were deleted or mixed & matched on a war time tractor B, C,and WC's (rear steel & front rubber, ect). The C has special parts because of this. Steel wheels, heavy cast rear wheel centers, taller aircleaner stack, battery and starter delete plug, castiron parts tappet cover, oil pan, and final drive covers. hope this helps. have a good one BILL P

Bill, interesting. My C was built mid 1944. I've rechecked the serial and it is plain to see. When I got this C it came with a short intake stack, batt. with starter, and steel covers for valve train, oil pan and final drives. I'm not sure if it had steel wheels or not. I wonder why there is a big difference between both wartime model?

Father purchased new in 1942 a "B" on steel that was a row crop. We saw a row crop "B" on steel at the GOTO in 2005 at UNION GROVE. Dad traded the tractor in 1945 for a new WF.
Mom has no pictures of the B. Does anyone else have a "B" vuilt this way?
