What would cause a loud whinning noise in the rearend of a C. It makes the noise in all gears, only when tractor is moving. Both sides are evenly loud all fluids are full. If you jack up one side and spin the wheel by hand it is heard as well.Everything works as it should it is just really loud in all gears. I have several Cs and there is always some gear noise but this one tractor is by far excessive. The noise seems to be coming from right at the center of where the two axles go into the center transmission.

Pinion to ring gear mesh, or bearings on pinion and differential, or all 6 (4 bearings, two gears).

My Farmall 504 has sounded like that for more than 10 years. I think it is called wear. So far it is not noticeably worse from one use to the next. Also it is a constant sound, not like broken teeth.

My C has a similar noise. It stops when the clutch is in and everything stops turning. It does it in neutral also but gets worse the higher gear you're in. Third is terrible. I believe mine is in the trans since it does it in neutral.
