Went to start my 5015 the other day and the solenoid finally gave up. I looked in the parts and service manuals, and it looks like the whole starter has to come off, which is usually not a big deal. On Sunday I decided I would get that off, but when I started to remove it, I discovered that rather than external bolts, attached to the block, it seems to require splitting the tractor to get at the opposite enf of the bolts holding the starter on.

Anyone have any wisdom on this?

Look real good and see if you can find the bolt heads on the backside of the clutch housing.

That was my first thought also, but I could not find the bolt heads on the rear of the clutch housing.... Looks like a winter project. Just need to insulate my shop now, but then that may be hard to get by the "management"

did a search on the 5015 and just came up with this but did see manuals for it listed.

There are actually 4 versions of the AC, the 5015 AC, Simplicity 9518, Massey Ferguson 1010, and Hinomoto C174. These are all the same tractors but Massey Ferguson has the best parts availability.

I asked at our closest Agco distributor, and they have the AC starter available. 540$ but available. I will be trying the local starter shops for a rebuid. I suspect those starters are used on other machines, but will take a bit of detective work.

Thanks for the pointer on the differrent brandings of the the same tractor. I was wondering if the Deutz Allis 5215 might not be basically the same tractor, perhaps updated.

I got back to the starter problem last weekend. I worked one nut off the upper bolt holding the starter, and the bold moved backwards. I went looking for the other end and about 8" away, a capstrew holdin gthe foot rests, was backed out. The other bolt was obvious then.

It's in for a rebuild at the moment.

Thanks for the help. Keeps one going when you are sure there is no easy way out!
