Howdy all. I tried doing a search on this but got my head spinning. I have a '49 WD, and need to replace the intermediate gear.  I've already pulled the PTO box off, and the intermediate gears not looking so good. Any tips out  there??
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Not sure what freight would be but if you cant get it I have the whole assembly from the bellhousing to the front of the trans with the wet clutch still in it laying on the floor of the shop if you needed it.

Are you asking how to replace it?   MACK

Yes, how to replace it. I thought I read that it can be done without splitting the tractor.
Thanks.

In theory, yes.  I have about a 50% success rate at getting them out without a split.
Drain PTO, Drop PTO, now you can see the broken gear.  There is a set screw towards the rear of the tractor inside the cavity.  Remove it.
Pull Hydraulic pump.  Now here's where it gets "iffy".  Slide the shaft holding the PTO intermediate gear into the cavity where the pump was.  I have a hard time getting a hold of the shaft.  Sometimes it just slides right over, and others, it's stuck.
We have the gear in stock when you get ready.

when you put it back together dont use a rear thick gasket on the pto box it will greatly reduce your tooth contact and bust another tooth off. never go with anything over .015 gasket on the box.need to ck your gear backlash when installed...

How much backlash should I be looking for?

according to the wd-45 ohm the only measurement is between idler gear and the intermediate gear.if less than .004 backlash, use 2 gaskets
