I have a PTO pump mounted on my WD to operate a farmhand loader. I want to build a wood splitter using the tractor hydraulics as a power source. Will those older style pumps have enough pressure to power a wood splitter using the tractor pto pump?

I think the power is there but the volume may not be which would make it very slow.

Best way is to get the Prince 21GPM 540 Pump. I have one on my set up and I get close to 4 sec full cycle time with a 4" cyl. Plus it allows you to throttle back to just above idle and still have good cycle times. You don't want to have to run your engine at full pto rpm. It just wastes fuel.

im looking to buy a 1948 wd that has been restored sometime ago. This wd has no pto on the unit. i have also a 1950 wd that greatgrandpa has bought in 1950. its been on the farm ever since. this 1948 has no pto and my major question is can a pto be installed on the 48. thank you for any info on this question. this a real good buy and if i can't install a pto unit on this 1948 wd then im going to pass on this deal. thanks

greatpa's, don't know much about WDs or how it would come to be without a PTO but seems it should be as easy as getting one an installing it. Plenty of them have been knocked in the head for parts. BTW your close to me and several other central Ohio Allis people.
