I was out on the WD today and i noticed the left rear wheel is making a chucking noise

like the axle is moving inside the housing its not bad just noticeable i know its not loose wheel nuts. i had this problem before i changed the final drive oil it had water in it after i changed it it went away but now its back im thinking it must have water in it again this tractor loves taking on water in the oil just from sitting outside all year i guess well im wondering if there is a problem the right rear never makes any noise so it makes me wonder whats going on. i only heard it when i was in 4th full throttle on the gravel road

If you're lucky, its nothing more than worn rails which lets the locks slide back and forth and up and down. However, that problem is usually most noticable when going forward and back.

Could be the bearing or it could still be loose wheels eccentrics but you can't see them move. Brother's D17 would make a clunk noise especially on a sidehill and you couldn't see anything move but when you held your finger at the point where the shift rail and eccentric meet while someone slowly drove it on a slight sidehill then you could feel it move when it clunked.

Exactly, I have an Oxnard blade on my WD with 4 suitcase weights hanging on it.

On a sidehill, you could really hear those eccentrics "clunk"

I "semi" cured the problem by inserting narrow strips of 1/16" steel in between the rail and the clamp.

I guess the best way to check the axle bearing is to jack up the tractor on that side and see if there is any "play" there.

last year when i changed the final drive oil i tried to move the hub but it wouldnt budge eithier way but i can see the wheel move very little its hardly noticeable.

what does that mean do i have to tear it down soon?

I hardly use the tractor so think i'll just keep my eye on it for now

g226wd...the ops manual states that there can be as much as 1/8 or 1/4 wobble on the tires..if all the bearings in the final drive are tight ,i would drive on...

oh boy i lost my head ok my rails are partly rusted away in some spots so i guess

the left wheel is a little loose oh well im guessing my bearings are alright

guess i'll drive on thanks
