Will be looking at a 160 this weekend, any thoughts. I know French built(Renault) and Perkins diesel. I am concerned about parts availability. Any common problems?

The only issue I've had has been with the tie rod ends.....n/a from Agco so I had to be a little creative. It's been a great trctor other than that. I am the second owner. Eric NY

I owned a 160 a number of years ago. Used it for haying, fencing and an all around goto tractor. Very effecient perkins. No problems, except that it was a bit light in the front end, without weights. Sold it to a guy who put a front-end loader on it...didn't last too long... took the clutch out of it and before that he bent the PTO shaft trying to spread a heavy load of packed manure...I guess with a hardened bolt as a shear pin... Remember it is a light duty tractor

Thanks for the help. It does have a loader, so will check front end and clutch carefully.

We just bought one less than a month ago. So far we've only had a few problems. Went to adjust the clutch and the rod was frozen solid, so we drilled it out, tapped it for 3/8" threads instead metric. We are still working on the hand throttle. From what others have told me, these often get frozen over time. After soaking ours with PB Blaster every day for the past week it is starting to move. It seems to be a strong runner and has been handy to use around the farm to move equipment, etc. Let us know how it goes.

Looked at the tractor, which turned out to be a 6040. Dealer wouldn't take my WD45 on a trade, but offered me a bit of a discount. It seemed to be in decent shape, but there were a few items I was concerned about. The loader was very slow to lift(empty), he said these tractors did not have volume and that was why it was slow. So passed it up and will put some coins into the WD45. Thanks for the advice.

In my judgement a loader tractor should have a hydraulic pump/system capable of at least 11 GPM. It is my understanding that the 6040 is around 6 or 7, similar in capacity to the to the 5040 and 5050 series pumps. A very good loader tractor would be a 170/175 or a D17 series 4, which has a similar hydraulic system.
