Which style??? snap coupler or 3pt hitch?? both are designed to lift/lighten the front wheels of the tractor and put weight on the rear wheels by using the disc or field cultivator weight thru the drawbar and lift arms. We had a D17 with dual rear wheels and with a 13 ft disc could actually pick the front wheels off the ground if you raised the arms clear up on a series 4.

I have two with one being NOS and was never used. I used the traction booster drawbar on my JD 4250 2wd to pull a 7 yard pull scraper (earth mover). It made the difference between being able to pull the scraper or not. I don't know why more wern't sold. I guess diesel fuel was too cheap back then.

To use it, hook it to the three point arms on the tractor and the front clevis to the tractor drawbar. Be sure to take the front pin out of the drawbar so it can float back on forth. All the draft will be on the three point arms and the drawbar's only function is to keep the front down. The implement hooks to the front of the traction booster drawbar on the top side with the big plate under the tounge. When the draft comes on, the arms want to lift but the tractor drawbar keeps the front down so the rear wants to tip up and puts pressure against the underside of the implement and thus transfers weight to the rear tractor wheels.

One of my brothers has two 3-point models. One is a new old stock but is missing the front pin and bracket. I have a Snap Coupler one that is cream colored and Dad has an orange Snap Coupler one. I think my brother also has an orange Snap Coupler one.

I asked about 3 point traction boosting drawbars on the YT site and a majority explained to me about draft control and Mr. Ferguson...LOL The few that did comprehend called the devices widow makers--either turning too tight in the field and having a disk harrow climb over you or losing control in transport when the arms try to raise. IH's design definitely would be a widow maker, as it is not anchored to prevent full vertical travel.

ACs seems more stable, but I suppose anything could happen. Have you heard of or witnessed the AC traction booster drawbars causing loss of control in transport?

We had the s/c drawbar back in 1968. Used the transfer system to pull a 12 ft MF disc with a series I gas D17. Never saw a 3 pt transfer hitch in operation.
