I bought a nice cream can today.  It has a plug lid on the top.  It does not have any holes or rust on it.  There is no marking on it that I can tell.

I want to clean it up and make it shine.  I work at a dairy and we use a mild acid to make stainless steel shine nice.  Is this cream can made out of stainless and will acid work good on it?

How old is it?

How much is it worth?  I must admit I mave only seen one other one this nice.

I did an internet search on them and could find very little information except the early ones were riveted and the later ones welded.

Use the gentlest methods first.  Vinegar and if you need to scrub a little ooo or 0000 steel wool, elbow grease and vinegar should do it.

I use S.O.S. pads on the semi's aluminum and stainless. It works great the soap in the pad gives enough lube so it doesnt scratch it, but the steel wool is abrasive enough to clean it up.

A lot of the old cans and cream seperators were tinned. I found some info on this a wile back and it looks like they acid dipped the steel and then dipped it in a hot vat of tin/lead mix, something like hot dipped galvinizing. They started making these items out of Stainless Steel i think after WWII.

The universal answer to all questions is yes, how much do you want to spend?
