Hello, just bought a 170 gas, clean little tractor, but dropped a valve, owner decided not to fix it & I bought it.  Head is ruined as well as one piston.  I have a good wd45 engine , is that a feasible swap or will I be under-powering the 170?  Any opinions/options are appreciated.  Thanks, A.J.

the 170 is a much nicer engine compared to the wd45, but you are in luck.  Swap the head.  Hopefully you can find a piston or cylinder assembly without haveing to buy a complete set if the others are good.

The 170 has quite a bit more power than the WD45, but it needs it with more accesories and hyd to run.

I don't put much time on any of these old gas tractors, it would be nice to spend all kinds of money and have everything fresh, but I usually just repair my "old tractors" to be in working order, if it's questionable than it gets replaced but I don't go putting to much in them.  They get driven into the shed anyway untill the battery goes dead and the gas gets old, then I decide to try and use it to rake some hay or run an auger so I can spend more time and money getting it running again.
