I couldn't find a float that would work long term. They all got gas logged and started sinking. I bought one online that actually came from AGCO, but it wasn't like the orginal. It was a little pricey, but it worked. I found one on ebay like the original in the picture after I ordered mine, and they still have one. The link is below, but I have never ordered from them. http://cgi.ebay.com/Allis-Chalmers-Tractor-Part-Fuel-Gauge-D10-12-14-15-/390334164845?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae1baaf6d - http://cgi.ebay.com/Allis-Chalmers-Tractor-Part-Fuel-Gauge-D10-12-14-15-/390334164845?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae1baaf6d

I've used a big ordinary cork from the hardware store a couple times. The secret to longevity is coating the float with SealAll, a goo that stands gasoline and alcohol often found in the same hardware store.

I think it was Charlie that figured out a Model A Ford gas tank float fits as nice as the original.

Call Kevin at Old Standard Auto parts 866-654-2855. I got a bunch of them in the spring for mine. As Brain says, they are for a Ford model A and are very nice quality.

The float in My D17 was a white hard-foam type 'liberated' from the fuel tank of a mid '90's Suburban... Junkyard find... $0.25...

I get mine from the local car repair shop just ask for a junk fuel pump / sending unit out of a gas tank and cut the float off. Works real nice and there're free.
