So I bumped into the previous owner of my 52 B tonight at Wal-mart. He asked if I was able to get it running and what I had to do. When I explained to him that I rebuilt the carb, changed plugs and wires, drained and flushed tank and she fired right up, he looked a little shocked. Guess he might have thought he was sticking it to me when I bought it for $600 delivered. Think I got the better end of the deal. 18yo kid wanted to buy a bigger motorcycle.
Did the motorcycle thing when I was younger. Think I will stick to tractors now.

It is not always what you did, but knowing what to do and actually doing it. Bought an old Buick from a neighbor one time. They had tried everything and could not get it to run. I replaced the four inch rubber hose from the tank to the fuel line in back and it started right and ran good. Yes, I had bought it cheap, as a non-running car. After checking that it was getting spark, discovered that it wasn't getting gas. Followed the line all the way to the back and found the problem. Offered to sell it back to him for $100.00 more than I paid. With any internal combustion engine start at the basics. Spark, Fuel, Air, compression, in that order. If it has all four and won't run, then it becomes timing. But most often, it is one of the four basics that is faulty.
You earn the right to buy it cheap, because he had given up on it. You made it worth more than you paid because you made it run. Good job!

Don't forget you did a fair amount of work on the tractor too.  Just goes to show how dependable the B is.
Thanks for saving another one of my favorates.
Good Luck!

Thought I'd post a pic of how I found her. The metal is all in good shape, even the radiator louvers still work. Now to find the time to make her look like she should.

Hmmm... even the tires look pretty good.  My steering arm is like that, too... I'm guessin' it was fairly common to 'tweak' those, eh?

A man down the road had his neighbor give him a weed eater when he couldn't get it to run. The neighbor went to Walmart and bought another one, and when he got back the fellow he had given the other one to was outside trimming weeds. It's all in knowing what to do like Steve said.

Think for yourself and be your own expert. Be willing to change your mind; however, willingness to change your mind doesn’t mean that you will. Blindly following any path is the pinnacle of insanity.

Many weedeaters get sold or scrapped when the spark arrestor screen gets plugged....easy fix. I watch for them on Craigslist and email the seller to check for that before they sell cheap. Tractors have a lot more things that could be wrong when you buy them not running....it is a gamble, but if you get them cheap enough you can sell parts and come out ok.  I always buy non-runners as parts tractors, usually get lucky and they run with little work.

I'm not sure of the year but that is a very late B.  Note the CA Torque Tube, and the Bullet tail light.
Glad you got it running though.
When you post pictures use 800 wide by 600 high.  Seems to fit right.
Again, thanks for saving another B.
Good Luck!
