Babbitt is what you need. Not lead. If you haven't done it before, might should have a professional do it. Not that hard, just need patience. HTH Tracy Martin

What I have found is the guys that know how to do it, don't spend anything on advertising. Ask anybody you meet that has an old tractor where you can have Babbitt bearings poured. My old boss read up on pouring Babbitt and then tried several times to pour bearings for his 1907 Hart Parr. I ended up making split bearings out of 660 bronze. He did find some help when he started working on the Aultman Taylor. Getting the heat right and preheating your assembly is muy importante.

You might check to see if there's a Model A Ford club in your area. The Model A engines run Babbitt bearings, and engine rebuilders have the capability you need. BTW, add your location to your profile so we know where you are - will make it easier to help you.

I'd give Fred a call, if anybody would have a handle on who can do it Fred would, and he is just about a neighbor of yours

Somebody have Fred's shop number? I have it somewhere, but can't find it right now

Why would anyone want to destroy the historic value of the A. Not to mention the fact that Babbitt bearings protect the journals a lot better than modern bearings. Why not just drop in a 302. Though exaggerated, it equates to the same thing. You've changed the fundamental design of the engine. Maybe I'm a purist but if you are not going to restore something right, give it to someone who will.

Hmmm - there are several Model A engine rebuilders in my area that do Babbitt bearings. Personally, I suspect that they are as "savy" as rebuilders elsewhere in the country.
