We where washing the R52 up in prepartion for wheat harvest and came accross an alarming discovery we noticed a grapefruit sized hole in the floor off the rear feed chain fairly close to the front, it appears by how jagged things look we poked something through it.  We  are planning on dropping the "feeder house" to get closer to it to work on it.  Are we going about this rightt? Is there a better way?  We have had this off before to replace a shaft but it's been atleast 8 years and can't remember how long it took.  The combine is a 1992.

Pull the feader house off, then cut the bottom of the floor out and have another one made.  I made mineout of the same material and pattern and just welded it in where the old one came out of.  Dan at Hurt equipmant has a floor design that is different and supposed to improve the transition of material from the front chain better but I had mine done before I found out about his modification.

Yes, you'll need to remove the feeder house. I helped a friend replace the   rear floor on his 52, plasma cutter works well to cut the old one out. Be sure to use the replacement floor panel from a R55 as it is thicker and will last longer. I'm not sure if Dan Hurrt makes the drop style floor for the 52/55's . This would be worth looking into as it would eliminate alot of feeding issues. I also put one of Dan's rear feed floors in my R62, made a big difference in feeding issues. You could patch it and try to get by, but probably wouldn't last very long. You might try combineforum.com also. Good Luck, Mike
