I am looking for replacement tires for the rear of the machine which currently has 16.9/14/28 i have people that tell me they will sell me 14.9/ 28 tires. but what i cannot find out or can get answered is what would the difference be between the tires and would it be an issue if they were put on the backhoe.

16.9x28 and 14.9x28 are two different sizes,if the machine is 4x4 and you fit the 14.9 you can say good by tranny if it is 4x2 then only problem would be that the rims could or would be too wide for the tires, also wont give as much flotation as the 16.9x28.This is the most common size on construction machines and are normally hi ply and hi load tires so if you can fit the 16.9x28 then you will have no probs i have worked with tires in the U K for 27 years. 16.9x28 is 14x28 in old size and 14.9x28 is 13x28 in old size so is completely different.

I really appreciate the help and information. Just so I understand the tire designation I know the 28 is the rim/wheel diameter the 16.9 would be the tread or tire width and this would only fit a rim/wheel that is 14" wide? where the 14.9 would fit a 13" rim/wheel. The machine is not 4x4 it is an old 1960's AC TS1000 with a Mark IV hoe with 6 cyl diesel I think the previous owner said a D17? If I was to replace the 16.9/28 tire and rim to the 14.9/28 tire and rim would that be an issue? I am really only using the machine on the property with an occasional job here and there.

Might not make a lot in that case but you want a R4 indistrial lug and casing instead of AG tires .
