We have an infestation of wild turkeys. While mowing hay last night we ran a hen through the hesston haybine. I felt terrible about it. In 13 acres there were four turkey nests with eggs. I have seen up to 20 hens walking around at one time. We have no idea where they came from they are just here.

the turkey population is growing,and spreading, and with that many nest and the hens sitting on the nest at this time of year, i do imagine that they probably lost there early clutches possibly do to eviroment issues (floods ect.) or predidation and they have moved in on your place to try and successfully raise a late clutch, i live in central ky and run a hen from her nest of eggs last week while bushhogging, and most of the wild poults here are running 8-12 inchs high two weeks ago

wild turkeys are a little bit of threat to early corn they will go down the rows puling the young plants out of the ground to get to the seed but overall they do less damage than deer or raccoons to a crop

and they are a treat to hunt, and there breast meat is good to eat, the leg meat usually is way to tought to eat, but boiled makes for some good turkey and dumplings

have not seen many since last fall around here but they are thick then, have them out back and then in fall along with the deer seem to be out amongst the apple trees. as field next to me is in beans this year wonder if i will have as many as last year when corn was planted.

Turkeys are very mobile and will move around until they find an area where they are not bothered.They will stick around until they get harassed and move and find another spot.They are starting to get good numbers around here but I see them in different areas all the time.Hunting can be a difficult.Sometimes they are where I can hunt and other times there are non around.They like to flock up(safety in numbers)together after spring breeding.Sounds like they found your field and like the surroundings.
My brother would find a bunch together in his wheat fields when he went to harvest.But some years they were there and other years non.
