I have the option to buy a hd4 loader with rippers for $2200.  It runs good.  I put it in gear put in forward and let the clutch out and it pulls straight.  I pulled the two levers one at a time and it slightly pulled each direction.  Would this mean it needs new brake bands on each side?  the levers pull all the way back to the seat like its majorly out of adjustment.  second issue is, whats it worth?  Is it worth the gamble that it will be easily fixed?  Needless to say I'm only 25yrs old and don't have tons of cash.I have 30ac I'm trying to clean up and my track steer isn't quite stout enough.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh by the way this will be my second AC.  Also have a pretty nice 1950 model b I saved from scrap.

Has it got steering brake pedals like a hd3? if so the two hand levers are for disengaging  the drive for each track then it woud turn slowly when you put the foot brake while holding the hand lever back, should stop that side  track , and make a sharp turn, hope that makes sense .

$2200 sounds like the seller wants 2 grand for it. The biggest expense on a dozer are the tracks. Look closely at them. Still the price seems good. At the very least its worth scrap price on 10k lbs at whatever your local prices is.

OK - HD4 is a 3 speed trany with a torque converter and a fwd/rev lever on left side along with the throttle lever , NO CLUTCH. On the floor are two pedals which control the brake bands . The two levers are for the steering clutch on each side , pulling lever will disengage the track on that side and machine will turn slowly, hitting the brake pedal heavily should stop track and allow ahard turn.
Brake bands are cheap if that is only problem , track and sprockets are next to impossible to find . You might find pins and bushings if rail height is good yet.
For the price in the $2000 range it wold be worth that then depending if gas or diesel as the AC 2200 engine came in either fuel.

Yes to that block as well as many parts on the engine . It was also used on cotton pickers and forklifts . It was also equiped with a turbo in some applications. Heard in that configuration thay got 85 HP from that little engine
