Have wd45 that will not pull, no smoke and shifts fine. Which clutch is slipping? Engine or Transmission. Thanks !!! Teddy

I believe if you engage the PTO and let out the foot clutch and the PTO spins then the foot clutch is good and it's the hand clutch that's bad. If The PTO won't spin then it's the foot clutch. I think, it's been a few years since I was on a WD45.

I believe for Stans plan to work you would need a load on the PTO, there could be sufficient drag on a slipping clutch to turn the shaft w/o load.

If there is no smell or smoke my money is on the hand clutch. Both clutches are adjustable....if you have any left

Lou is correct, to be sure it would need a load on the PTO which may be a problem if it's not already hooked up to a mower or some other PTO driven tool.

You don't need a load on the pto, it is gear driver and when the ground wheels stop and the pto will stop turning, then your foot clutch is slipping. If the ground wheels stop turning and the pto keeps turning, then your hand clutch is slipping. You can use your brakes and a higher gear to conduct this test.

No smoke. the foot clutch is a dry clutch and will smoke, the hand clutch is a wet clutch(runs in oil) and will not smoke.

My brother had a WD 45 with the same problem. Does your hand clutch "snap in" when you pull it back or is it soft and loose feeling? There are shimms in the hand clutch that you can remove after the plates have worn. When it is shimmed properly the hand clutch will be fairly hard to engage and will snap into place.
