There are no holes in the block on this tractor to mount a generator It was a basket case I just don't see any way to tension the fan belt tight. I don't need a generator because it has a magneto but how or what allowed u to tighten the fan belt?

You probably have a Model B? The pulley should have 2 nuts that you can loosen and then twist the outer part of the pulley and it will give you some more room.

The pulley on the water pump is adjustable. Loosen the nuts on it and twist it. It works on a cam to tighten or loosen the belt. If it hasn't been used for a while it might be stuck. Bob

I have a B engine that someone put a weldnut plate on that bolted to the engine from the front cover to allow a gen to be installed. I promply removed it. If you have a mag, stay with it and don't look back.

i am new to this computer forum stuff so i hope i am doing this right . dad passed last week and his pride and joy was his 46 b I have been working with him on it on and off for ten years its completly rebuilt and ive now got it running but i am a little baffeld and dad always straighten me out its got a 12 volt batt to start it but my meter says , my gen. is not charging 6 or 12 volts to the batt , there is a wire diconected from ,or right at the gen. did he just have the batt.for starting it? I can start it with the crank but i would like to have lights that work and if i am not charging well you can guess how that will go. Also the thing will run without the batt so i am assuming the gen. is powering the mag. 6 volts would i be correct in this ? I truely love this little tractor and would like to make it correct for dad so any help now and in the future would be greatly appreiated ..... happy tractoring!!!!!

A mag makes it's own power, no generator or battery needed.

thanks i guess that should have been obvious / no wirers to or from the mag.

If you have a generator, it most likely is 6 volts. If you have an alternator, it most likely is 12 volts. Someone might be able to post a wiring diagram for a B charging system to help. Very sorry for your loss. Finishing the B and cherishing it is a great tribute to your father. Bob@allisdowneast.

Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss. Dad's are once in a lifetime and are missed every day.

As to your B - my favorate Allis Chalmers tractor - you may want to get in touch with Steve NJ. He is our resident expert on all things electrical.

Let it knows how it goes with your B. If you can we would like to see pictures.

I know your father would be very proud of you for taking the time to restore his tractor.

thanks Bob I do think its a gen. i went out this morn and took the batt out and cranked it right up ... Is it a normal thing for people to apply a 12 volt batt to this six volt system?I suppose its just for starting right?Also I noticed that my fuel line is never full it has air from the sediment bowl 6 inches to the carb is this normal? it seems to run ok but I have not put it under a work load yet
