I have a AC HD16 dozer which has a bad starter and I'm not real sure about how to remove it the fastest easiest way. I would appreciate any suggestions.

On my 16b it is just a simple unbolt and remove.

The problem I am facing is that there is a pump attached directly above the starter, I am not sure what the pumps function is and if I could cause damage or more work by removing it to access the starter. I don't see how I can possibly remove the starter without first removing the pump or at least it's hoses which presents another issue of them being unflexible for ease of moving them for better access to the starter. I need advise on best procedure to remove  the starter.

they either come out the top or bottom. if the top is too congested, remove the belly pan and drop it out the bottom.
