Dad did this with a D-17 IV with a mounted 190 picker.  A 4020 and 180 and 45 couldn't get enough traction on frozen ground to get it out and he did it with a post.  It worked but looked very scary to a kid.  (can't be safe or good for final drives.)

I'll go with the smart, given that it was soft enough to let the bar go down into the goo and not ride on top causing something worse.

u may be able to do that with a small tractor put not with a big one like a 185 190 200 210 or 220 but u never know.
