I have yet to replace the input shaft seal on an HD5 but I did extensive re-work on the shifter, and I can state that just checking the oil in the transmission would be easier if I were a trapeze artist. Best wishes on your project

| You need to removed the drive shaft and removed the input shaft yoke and pull the gasket seal,2ring seal and boot assambly |

Thanks for your response to question. I had the fuel tank off of the tractor, so it was easy to fill the transmission with oil. When I had reinstalled the fuel tank and finish putting everything back in place. I notice oil leak around the input shaft. Would it be possible to replace the seals without removing the whole transmission? Are replacement parts easy to find, by using HD-5 parts number? Thank you

| The transmission use 5 gallons oil inside and it should be lower the input shaft and the seals can be change with out removing the transmission and am still have these seals and if your transmission is over fill you need to drain some oil and it should have a small plug under case and oil should be gear oil 50 or 80\90 |

Oil fill is on top of transmission , level plug to check is on side (1'4" pipe plug) Seal is 2 parts - a brass seal disc mounted to yoke and another to transmission , to hold pressure on these 2 plates is a boot seal - a spring assembly enclosed in a rubber boot which is said to be held onto 2 parts with contact cement . Seal is the 2 discs which have a set of lines cut into them that spiral oil back into transmission when turning - setting still the face of seal just fit close tolerances to prevent oil seepage .
