Here's a little rant.
All I wanted was to put a new set of fan belts on my D15 diesel since it is already torn down in the shop - easy, right? The AGCO parts book referenced #70233489, so went ahead and ordered them from my local AGCO dealer - they get a lot of business from me.
The belts arrived in a plastic bag with a tag indicating part #70233489. The sleeve that contained the belts also read 70233489. I went to put the belts on and they are a mile too long. Looked at the part number on the belts: 70248316V! I contacted my dealer and explained that the numbers on the belts do not match those shown on the sleeve, plastic bag and AGCO website. They said they would look into it.
A few days later, they sent me a message stating that 70248316V should be the correct belt. How can it be? It's way too long! They asked for the numbers on the belts that were on the tractor, but the belts are worn and the numbers are not legible.
Fast forward a week to today, they send me a message requesting the tractor's year, make, model, serial number, have I owned it from new, AND have the belts ever been changed before...
Step by step: 1963 D15 diesel serial number 13963D Bought March 2025 from the original owner - it is older than I am! Have the belts been changed before? I explained that the tractor is 63 years old. I am quite certain that the belts have changed more than a few times - but probably not with AGCO belts. I also mentioned that the belts on the tractor fit perfectly.
Waiting to to hear back, but all I wanted was a set of belts that are meant for that tractor. I am not asking for too much! What an ordeal.
Does anyone know if AGCO really does have belt number 70233489? I thought they did, but now I am not so sure...
