If I want to put a 2800 diesel out of an F combine in place of a 2800 gas will the parts that need to be changed work from the gas (timing covers, timing gear and I've heard the cam). Is there anything else major?

front and rear plate, water pump. front plate for mounts and hydraulic pump, jus hafta pull the cam, or camthere  gear to change front plate. the rear has the mounts for the front axle pivot, combine does not..
this is jus a few things I can remember, there maybe more,, hopefully others will chime in

You will have to have  front covers from a diesel with hyd pump drive - your 2800 Gas does not have provisions for a fuel pump and the F combine has no provisions for the hydraulic pump drive. You may have an issue with the front crank pulley - the gas and diesel are one part number off - an XT would work - there is limited space and a crank pulley off a M2 will not work - ask me how I know.... the gas and diesel might interchange as I have no idea what the difference is.

Gas and diesel solid cast iron crank pulleys are the same except for the timing marks are on the right side for the diesel and the left side for the gas. You'll have to use the tractor flywheel with the combine ring gear transferred to it.

I guess one could index the pulleys on the crank and transfer the degrees to be close enough for govt work. I once put a engine off an L in a XT and it would not turn over - big puzzle until I tried to move it with a prybar on the flywheel and heard a squeak from the front, the longer pulley was wedged against the front cast housing. After expecting to hear it run it is frustrating to have to split it apart and change pulleys... grrrr
