It seems I have no hold in my hydraulics. It's been bad forever, but re-adjusting it seems to have made it worse.

In the instructions, set hydraulics up, make initial adjustments, then move lever until rams start to drop. I think this is where my problem starts, because as soon as I moved the lever, the rams began to drop. lock in all the linkages as directed, and it doesn't have a hold position. I'm assuming that should be somewhere near the middle of the lever throw, but it's either up or down, and will not catch a spot to hold at.

By my reckoning, there must be something in the pump its self that won't let the fluid backflow, but it is just as soon as the linkage is moved. My problem should lie there.

has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

If you have all the adjustments set correctly as per the service & operators manuals, the "hold" valve on the top of the pump is not seating correctly or has rust on the ball.

The pump can be set for;

Lift/lower

Lift/hold

delayed lift

Traction Booster

What setting are you trying?

From here it sounds like your little rod is not correctly timed with the big rod. It's kinda self intuitive if you look at it and how it works. When the lever is full up the big rod and it's lower lever should be full up. When lever is a little above 1/2 on the quadrant the plates which should be locked together on the hold valve should be level. Front and rear corners basically same height. Adjust little rod linkage to correct. That should give you lift,hold,lower. You really need a book if you aren't familiar with it.

Steve, that's just the problem...I've got the books and have set everything per that, and these are my results.

Paul, I'll disassemble the hold block and see what I find then. Guess I figured it was ok because I hear the click from the ball when I rotate it into place. I'm trying for hold, but I'm guessing nothing will work right with it acting like this.
