I was driving on Highway 18 in northern Iowa this afternoon and saw what looks like an abandoned Allis dealership. I believe the name on the Building was Wellkin (spelling)?? The lot is full of D series all the way up to black belly 7000 and old Gleaners up to the N series. Anyone from that area know the back story? It looks like they shut the doors and just walked away. Here’s what I came up with… https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/salvage-yard_topic178045.html" rel="nofollow - https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/salvage-yard_topic178045.html
Looks like a salvage yard.

Looked it up on google map and there’s a lot of tractors and combines!!

Been by there a few times, I have a cousin who lives relatively close to there, I don't really know much about it but its really cool to see.  From what I gather I think they still do some business there, not sure if its parts or repair or maybe even buy and sell some tractors/combines?  I'd like to stop in there sometime, those old dealerships are like a time capsule.

Thanks for the link to the 5-yr old thread.  I was driving and trying to rubber neck as I drove by.  After reading how the owner thinks he's sitting on gold explains why the tractors look mostly complete yet.  Unfortunately, what is still good is going to rust into the ground.  Andy

The last time I was there (8 yrs ago) nothing has appreciated in value and most things are worth less. Sorry, Melvin.

Yes, I do, the man’s name is Melvin Wellik. 641-923-2671. He has sold Allis Chalmers all over the world, if you can believe that. We have a D 15 series II from his fine establishment. I have gotten parts from him many times. If you go to see him, you better plan on staying a while. He is a knowledgeable and entertaining gentleman to talk with. He knows how to tell a funny story. Last fall I had the 8000s out here in the yard. At first, he drove by, but, he told me I just had to stop and talk for a while.

One story he told me was back in school days, there was one teacher that some of the kids didn’t like. Late one night, one of the kids Mel knew, took a bag off of the scour cleaner from an old crop Combine. The kid went and spread the fines from that bag across his garden. Mel told me that poor teacher was out there cutting weeds all summer long. He can make you laugh until you cry. And then, he’ll make you laugh some more.
