Mounds of sentiment against Tyson and Agri Food corporations closing these processing plants, ending “Hundreds of Jobs”, how soon the media forgets.

East St Louis IL, a place in History of “National City” where stockyards were by the mile and processors were listed as a Who’s Who parade. Been closed and the City abandoned for close to five decades. Were no whining calls of impending doom as the trains stopped and the stockyards closed.

Processors opened NEW facilities in KS and NE as that National City Closed. So too the jobs are moving again.

If I am remembering correctly a new farmer owned coop meat processing plant a hundred miles away. Hoping to send most to Walmart I think.

The amount of meat available is not down much with lower cattle numbers. Just feed them to 1600 pounds or more. But older plants don't do well with larger carcasses.

Was noted by a MFA member on the Cattlemans association the majority of Fast Food Restaurant beef is old cows and Imported from Argentina or Mexico. Higher grade US beef going to upper end grocers and direct home purchasers.

I buy a lot of my beef from a local farmer who also has a USDA inspected processing facility. Costs a little more than in the store but better quality and I know where the money is going. Several farmers in the area are going this route. Also there is a young man in an adjacent county that operates a year round produce stand. He buys directly from local farmers and only has what is in season. All of his produce is top quality.

Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

Supposed to be a new beef processing plant built south of Council Bluffs, IA. Seems to be running a little behind schedule.    https://www.ketv.com/article/big-beef-plans-major-facility-coming-to-glenwood-iowa/36843540" rel="nofollow - https://www.ketv.com/article/big-beef-plans-major-facility-coming-to-glenwood-iowa/36843540
