I added this battery disconnect switch to my 170. Works great. It is a Grote 82-2103. I put it on the Right side of the tractor because of the way the battery cables were routed, I would recommend putting it on the Left side, that’s where my gas shutoff is and the easier side of the tractor to climb on and off.

Great idea. They work well but once a year of so take a look at it and clean up well. I have seen them covered in green so bad that strange things happen.

I've been installing a master disconnect switch on all my tractors. Good safety for 50 year old wiring harness. ------------- Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed |

| I have been thinking about doing it on the tractors I take to shows. I make it a point to allow kids to get on them anytime and it would be a good way to make sure they don't accidentally hit the start button on the older ones. |

I've put disconnects on everything I have. I try to put in between the battery ground and frame, that way the disconnect terminals are not "hot". I call them an exercise switch, because until you get used to turning it on, you get in the seat, turn the key and cuss a bit for forgetting to turn it on. I will say this, I replace batteries at a much lower rate than I used to. Also I know when I walk away from the unit, there will not be an electric related fire or issue. I have been putting them on everything lately also. The 7000 had one when I bought it, but it is on the positive side. My seriesIII got one a couple years ago because I was running a Transpo Star2 regulator, and it would drain the battery over time.I have since switched back to the hood mounted regulator, but enjoy the peace of mind the shutoff brings. My usual process is to turn the battery switch on, get on the tractor, remember the switch, climb back off to see that I already turned the switch on, then get back on the tractor and start it. It was also handy when I was wiring in some new LED lights, I could leave everything on and use the shutoff switch to test my work. Same here. In the gas Tractors, I run a knife switch on the ground of the battery and in the diesel tractors, I just disconnect the ground wire. It sure has saved the batteries from running down.
