It is time to split the 8050 PD I picked up two years ago needing the reverse gear and idler replaced from prior operator error. I have a heavy duty splitting stand for splitting at the flywheel and wheeling the engine out of the way. I will have to find a way to support the cab unfortunately I don't have access to a overhead hoist. Next I will have to remove the the transmission completely I do have a old manual semi transmission jack that should be able to be modified to bolt to the bottom of the tractor transmission. It's going to be a big job but I did a triple split on my 190 this summer for a power director and pto drive gear replacement. Anyone have any experience or advice for splitting the 8050? I do have a good service book that's about 6" thick unfortunately a factory transmission stand is non existent. Thanks.

I always leave the transmission attached to the engine. Roll that whole assembly away from the rear end and then detach the transmission from the engine.

Yes to the last post. Do the rear split first. Raise and support front of cab, roll the whole works out. Easy to remove transmission then.

What type of stand/cart/jack do you guys use to support the transmission? Thanks

The official Allis-Chalmers/OTC front stand was strong enough to handle all that weight. I imagine one would want the front weights left on until the tranny is removed from the engine. I had the OTC stands and I had a home made set. My homemade tranny stand would take the tranny out without having to remove or even touch one line to the hydraulic pumps. I doubt your truck jack would be able to do that.

I welded heavy wheels to scaffolding screw jacks, slid heavy pipe over them then welded on flat mounting plates and bracing.

Used it to wheel both engine and tranny out together.

Remove front weights first. Sp1litting stands on engine side frames far to the rear. Use a floor. Jack from the front to help support the transmission when you roll it apart. When you remove transmission from engine remove one 7/8 bolt from each side and put in a long 7/8 bolt with head cut off before you take out other bolts. My splitting stands are simply a 1x4 flat iron, pipe welded to side at bottom end 1 inch all thread and wheel. Easily raised up or down. Then an iron forward to another hole in frame. You can lift and support cab front with a pipe flat plate on top with a hole, all thread with channel or angle on top easy to raise up or down. Make sure range transmission is in park. Put a little jack stand under drawbar at rear, jack and blocks under front of rear main housing.drain oil before split. Not during split, makes a mess.

I have a set of AC cab jacks. They are pretty easy to duplicate. Some 1"pipe and 3/4 all thread would work. Also made a set of splitting jacks, rear end, middle and side that are almost identical to AC's. I did my 7060 pd several years ago. It is a heavy chunk to deal with, respect it until it's in a safe place. Also, a nice tool to have is the bracket to remove clutchpack from trans.

My 8070 was already split at flywheel when I decided to go through PD. Don't remember how i held onto PD clutch out or in but that sucker is HEAVY! That's when i found the trashed front bearing behind PD. Ton of metal at suction screen so I decided to replace all brgs so no upcoming failures. Pulled trans with a truck jack and some creative brackets for support. It ain't flat or symetrical anywhere on bottom. Do your due diligence when shimming the bearing behind PD.  Do yourself a favor and move wheels out before starting to give room to work. Long story short...I did It ,so can you.
