my 210 slips out of 1st/5th as soon as the clutch is engaged...can  this be fixed easily or is it a major repair, ie do I learn to live with it!

To properly diagnose the problem, you need to remove the center platform and the shift cover to investigate. My gut feeling is that particular gear has been ground into gear so many million times since 1970 that the shift nubbins are all ground off the gear and the shift coupling. I would expect it to pull a load, but jump out on a downhill coast. You might have a broken shift fork. Removing the shift cover to inspect will verify that, but I'm thinking major repair work.

Thanks for reply, I expect major problem as it will no pull its own weight without jumping out of gear.

It would be worth your time to pull the cover and look. Might just be a broken fork.
